to someone you met

Inspired by yearbook signing pages, this project features notes from people around the world written about someone they met and either still talk to, don’t talk to often but still keep in touch, or don’t talk to anymore. Our relationships change as we move through different phases of life. Our project aims to showcase the range of unique experiences and memories associated with friendships: the only relationship that is not connected by blood.

Sylvie Lam is a photographer, dancer, and college sophomore born and based in the Bay Area. She is passionate about empowering people through storytelling and cultivating community and genuine connections through her art.
Maui Ong:
Maui Ong, a San Diego film school student, is a photographer, videographer, and dancer with a dream of creating captivating content for artists and fostering artistic communities through her production team. Her passion for visual storytelling and dance drives her to make a positive impact in the artistic world.

Tuesday Villane
Tuesday is the bandleader and creative force behind Tuesday Again, an original jazz fusion quartet that plays festivals, events and concerts. Tuesday is a multi percussionist but specialized in the vibraphone as a medium for creating sonic art and performing highly visual music with her band, solo, or with sound healing groups.

Alias Cogollo
Alias Cogollo is an urban-Colombian artist based in NYC. He enjoys mixing his own compositions with salsa and 70s rock referenced from his youth. His aims to collaborate with different artists in creating a collective label.
Summer
Summer (she/her) is a NYC artist merging humanistic stories and bio-inspired visuals that make one stare a little longer. With a BA in Media Arts, she uses paintings, writing, and animations to bring wonder to the inner child of adults.
Papers Between

“Papers Between” is an honest short film through the camera lenses of two childhood pen pals as they explore unfamiliar foreign environments and themselves. Capturing various scenes from multiple locations throughout North America and Europe, filmmakers Brianna Ifland and Kai Rebollo recontextualize documentary footage with the various musings, poetry, and eyes of two friends connected only by letters. Filmed on a 3DS, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12, Panasonic Lumix G7, and Samsung DV150F. Edited on Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
Brianna Ifland
Brianna Ifland is a Filipino-American multimedia production student at the University of Arkansas, where she has proudly founded the Film Honors Society. Her work is marked by interpersonal relationships, culture, identity, and mental health. Despite her theatre-heavy background, she now focuses on expanding her storytelling to prose, poetry, and film.
Kai Rebollo
An Asian American and recent graduate from CSU Long Beach (with Honors), Kai Rebollo have always had a passion for storytelling and media. An experienced filmmaker and broadcaster with a proven track record of delivering engaging, award-winning broadcasts, commercials and short films that always tie back to his philosophy on the interconnection of human existences.
Faceless

Our project, Faceless, is a short rom-com screenplay about two women, Emery and Sage, who match on a faceless dating app, but when they meet in real life, they turn out to be high school exes. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, they agree to spend the day together to reconnect after years of separation. This lighthearted story takes you through an ultimate awkward situation and explores the question of whether or not love truly fades.

I’m Anya Jiménez (she/her)! I’m a writer, performer, and director from New York City. I’m currently a sophomore studying screenwriting at USC. My writing has been recognized nationally by organizations including YoungArts, Scholastic, #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence, and more. Thanks for this opportunity!

My name is Sara Lam, born and raised in Oakland, CA! I’m at junior at CSULB majoring in film. I am a filmmaker and photographer with interests in screenwriting, cinematography, video journalism, and editing. I love fictional drama and comedy but I also love real stories and nature videos.
My Morningstar

“My Morningstar” imagines Southeast Asia without the heavy influence of westernization, leaving a more grounded, but still modern society, contrasted with medieval-like aesthetics. The story surrounds the relationship between a Solar Knight and her Lunar Princess, showcasing how they interact with each other and their environment. Despite their differences in cultural beliefs, class, etc. their dynamic as well as the world they inhabit serves as a reminder that Eastern and Western values and practices can coexist without imposing on one another. The project is heavily inspired by the artists’ experiences, being of both Asian and American identities.

Francene Olegario is a creative born and based in Los Angeles currently pursuing a BFA in Animation at Otis College of Art and Design. While she is passionate about storytelling through a variety of mediums including film and writing, her creative emphasis lies in visual development.

We play with fabrics of various textures and materials to tangibly define a part of our experience of what it means to be Filipino-American. If it doesn't make sense to you, we trust that you'll connect to our project through the various images, leading questions, or similar intersections of our identities in our gallery. We believe that photography is a universal experience that all fellows and their identities can connect to.
Jazmyne Aquino
Jaz is a creative based in Los Angeles, studying at the University of Southern California. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, she intends to continue pursuing multimedia for media organizations and her personal channels while studying Public Relations and Theatre. Jaz loves all things beauty, entertainment, social media and matcha.
Janelle Amores
Janelle Amores (she/her) is a second-generation Pilipina-American, creative, and community organizer based in Northern California. Janelle plans to pursue a career as a Product Designer or UX Researcher after finishing her undergraduate education, often finding things like design and photography as her current frequented creative outlets.

For Palesa, this collection is an exploration of new summer experiences. It’s a depiction of candid moments that felt special enough to want to remember and share despite being mundane and unassuming. They decided to approach the theme with a sense of optimism and spontaneity. For Caleb, this collection is about using the flash on their camera as much as possible. To them, summer is instantaneous, dynamic, hot, and cold.

Just a Walk

Just a Walk is an exploration of Abitha’s summer experience. Focusing on the evolving stages of learning Identity through descriptive reflections told in poem and story format. Culminating into a message of growth and understanding in Abitha’s unpublished children’s book called A Sunflowers Worm. Told with the accompanying music listened to when the sparks for each whimsical word was inspired.

Abitha enjoys exploring art in any medium even if it’s a slow video of the leaves flowing in the wind. New to the multimedia world they try to incorporate daily experiences and senses into their work. They also enjoy reading, people watching during long walks, soccer, and mixed martial arts!
